Write a brief reflection on what you
learned from the video.
The video is
very helpful in understanding that every child is a reader and a writer from a
very early age. It demonstrates that with the utilization of proper tools and
strategies, any student can eventually become an independent reader and writer,
which is the ultimate goal in kindergarten. I like that the teacher applies
several techniques to teach the students how to read. The read aloud segment
helps students be exposed to higher reading levels while stimulating discussion.
The shared reading allows students to read together and help each other. The
guided reading lets the students read on their own and the teacher is available
to help them as needed. Finally, the independent reading allows students to
read on his or her own while the teacher simply observes them. The gradual
release of responsibility helps students gain confidence little by little to
finally do it on their own.

ReplyDeleteI totally agree, you can tell the teacher has a passion for wanting to teach the children and that in turn enhances a child's willingness to learn.

She definitely has that elementary teacher gift that allows for control, nurture and effective teaching. Her plan is flawless and it is clear that the students know the routines of the class.
ReplyDeleteGreat observation and recap of instructional strategies demonstrated through the video! You also pointed out an important scaffold instructional concept, "gradual release of responsibility." Good job! :D
